About us

The International Commission for Science and Technology was created by decree by President Leonel Fernández with the objective of internationally recognizing the Dominican Republic as one of the Latin-American countries with the biggest scientific and technological developments. The head of this commission, which operates from the United States, is José Santana. Since its beginnings in May of 2005, the CIACT has had a full agenda participating in various local and international projects with high importance to the country.

MISSION

To strengthen and impulse the science and technology field, promote, and develop new areas in scientific and technological investigations on a national level.

VISION

To become the lead institution in the Dominican Republic and to place the country in the highest competitive level of science and technology.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES

  • To enrich and expand the formation and education of science and technology.
  • To strengthen the growth of the current science and technology industry as a national development tool.
  • To focus and promote scientific and technological investigation in the Dominican Republic.
  • To accelerate the growth of the high technology directed to markets, with new tools that allow the country's evaluation in these aspects.
  • To increase the base of intellectual resources on a national level through programs and policies.
  • To internationally introduce the Dominican scientific and technological community by strengthening projects that have international agreements with countries in North America, the European Union, and Latin America.

 

CURRENT PROJECTS

The Dominican government, through the International Commission for Science and Technology, has stated that the development of science and technology is a fundamental factor in order to face challenges, which in the beginning of the 21st Century had been imposed by globalization and the introduction of our country in the closing of the digital gap.

To move forward in these measures the efforts have been directed towards increasing the national investment in the development of this area.

DEFINITION OF THE AREAS AND POSITIONS:

Directions:
Directions are at an executive level and obey, in general, an administrative disposition. Its functions are substantial to specific areas or departments.

Departments:
Departments are organizational entities with an intermediate direction or supervision of operations. Its creation obeys a labor division by force, product, clients, process or strength of work, as it applies.

Divisions:
Divisions are organizational entities similar to a Department, but with a lesser rank. They specialize in a specific function.

Directors:
Responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the activities of the Directions or Departments under their supervision.

Coordinators:
Responsible to act out the plans of the International Commission for Science and Technology and also of the coordination of the actions of the divisions and entities under its supervision, collaborating with the planning and execution of its activities.

Clerical Positions:
Responsible for the carrying out of departmental functions under the policies established by the directors.
